The street, which is only 750 meters long, is located south of Hepingmen (Peace) Gate within walking distance of the Hepingmen Quanjude Peking Duck Restaurant. In Ming and Qing times, Liulichang became a favorite haunt for antiques, as well as painting and calligraphy. By the later Qing Dynasty, many treasures from the Forbidden City lost to the Liulichang market, from then on, where is notable in China and aboard till now.
